KKK in Louisiana

November 4, 2008 was a historic and memorable night for many of us. I cried, screamed, and was on an "emotional high" for days. However, reality set in when I heard about the Klan acitivity in Louisiana, my home state. It didn't surprise me, but I really didn't want anything to spoil the happiness and pride that I've felt since the election. When President Elect Obama was elected, I tearfully called my two sons, and told them, "this is why I pushed you so hard in school." They simply stated that they "understood." Tonight, as I've read several accounts about the KKK incident, and heard numerous reports on television, my euphoria has turned to fear. My sons are successful young men whom I love very much as any other parent; but when I call them now, my message has emphasis on "please be careful." I've read that the Klan membership is surging because of the recent election. I feel in my heart that a CHANGE is coming, but not so fast in Louisiana, and other southern states. Racism is alive and well, and it may take several lifetimes to change that.
