Drunk Driving

It was estimated that close to 18,000 people died in 2008. That's a staggering number, especially considering other, much less serious problems receive so much more attention. It's probably one of the largest causes for death (probably largest among accidental death).
Something needs to be done about this, but I'm not sure what. There's not much you can do, as there's no way people will allow you to take away their alcohol. Maybe more highway patrols could be deployed throughout highways to prevent drunk people from driving. The penalty for drunk driving needs to be increased greatly. Even if you don't hurt anyone, if you get caught, you need some severe punishment. Maybe that will make people think twice before drunk driving.
