Throughout my life I've seen poverty. It seems that no matter where you go, it's still around. Even if you live in the wealthiest neighborhood once you drive out of there to a neighboring city chances are you'll probably encounter a poor region. I luckily never faced any extreme form of poverty, but did face some mild poverty while growing up here in the U.S.
I've also had some friends who were quite poor, and where I'm currently living I often see poor people as well. We often take for granted what we have, and sometimes have misconceptions about these poor people. It saddens me when others look down upon them as if these people are useless. The real scum of the Earth are the fraudulent politicians and con-artists who abuse our justice system and make a mockery of it, not a poor man who might have lost his home due to a fire or a poor family working hard to pay the bills. |

When I grew up, my mom used to take me traveling so that I could learn about other places.
I learned about poverty when I went to visit Vietnam, my "home country". It's a wild and unruly world out there and people will do just about anything to have some form of power. In Vietnam, you would see children selling lottery tickets to support their family. People physically distorted so that you would feel sympathy for them and give them money. It is really bad in VN if you get along with the wrong crowd. |
